Chato-Male, Boxer/Pit mix, 4-5 years old, neutered, he is one of the most affectionate dog we have ever had. He gives hugs and kisses to everyone, loves children and gets along very good with other dogs.

In December last year, I went to an Indian Reservation for a meeting and found that some puppies were playing in an open field and one puppy was limping. I learned that an old lady had died and left one female dog and five puppies behind. They had not been spay/neutered; the neighbors were feeding them; but nobody was working on getting them spay/neutered or finding them homes. When I left there, those puppies weighed heavily on my mind.

I did some calling to see if there were some local organizations that could help but unfortunately, they are involved in too many projects and won't be able to help. I was busy trying to find good homes in the Bay Area for six dogs and two cats. Fortunately, in two weeks I managed to place all of them except for one dog who is still in a foster home. But things seem to be under control.

At the beginning of February, we started to get involved with the dogs from the Indian Reservation area in Clear Lake. Dolly, a Sharpei/Pit mix was the first one we took. After finding her a home we went back and took Buddy, Lucky and one kitten. Liza from LEA (Love Every Animal) also helped by picking up Chato who has had the cherry eye problem for a long time. If not treated, he will become blind. His so-called owner never bothered border to take care of it and worst of all he recently moved and left the poor dog behind. A week later, when Liza was trying to pick up Pinto, who desperately need medical attention, she was told by some kids in the area that a guy named MOO had used a shotgun to kill all the dogs and cats on the reservation.

We are devastated by this incident. This kind of practice should not be allowed any place. We are in the process to deal with this situation, in the meantime, the last dog we picked up named Chato really needs a foster or permanent home. He has been in a kennel cage for almost a month.
